I have often reminded my students of the importance of perseverance. As someone once said, “art work” involves a significant amount of dedication and commitment. Success in art does not come overnight and requires consistent effort and hard work.

Definitions of Fine Art and Commercial Art

Fine art is not a technique nor even a series of techniques. It is about creating a piece of art that the artist hopes to sell. A piece of art can be considered fine art if it is made by the artist without someone else dictating how it should look. If the artist has created a unique vision and crafted it all by themselves, it is fine art.

Art that is made according to someone else's directions or to meet specific customer demands is considered commercial art. This type of art often includes graphic design elements, text, and information about the product. While there is a spectrum between pure fine art and commercial art, art that is created independently with an artistic vision is classified as fine art.

Again, fine art is what I made all by myself without anyone saying I had to do it this way or that way. Further, I then have to find a way to find a buyer. Commercial art is dictated to me to produce to the customer's direction and satisfaction. I have a contract that states what I am to be paid if I deliver what was asked for.
