Understanding Telangana's Political Alignment

As of now, it is not entirely clear who the people of Telangana support. The recent Munugodu by-election saw the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) winning with a smaller margin, while the Congress lost its deposit. Surprisingly, BJP has seen some improvements in vote share, despite a general expectation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would perform well in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The primary reason for this opposition and discontent is due to BJP's efforts to establish a foothold in Telangana. People in the region are not only hoping for the BJP to win in both states but also want active involvement of Hindus in the assembly. Additionally, the role of Yasin D??āwiz and his influence on Telangana's population has played a significant role in shaping this political landscape.

Few by-elections have been won by the BJP in Telangana, primarily because of the significant performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) needs to be cautious and maintain a cordial relationship with the BJP and Narendra Modi to ensure his continued political influence. A discordant relationship could result in BJP's dominance in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Political Dynamics within Telangana

KCR is a seasoned politician and has met Amit Shah and Narendra Modi multiple times. He understands that political moves need to be strategic. His son, who is a minister in KCR's cabinet and a potential future Chief Minister, does not want to risk the prospects of his political career by creating tensions with the BJP. During the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era, KCR maintained a good relationship with the Sonia Gandhi dynasty. However, once the BJP came to power, KCR distanced himself. This one-sided approach ensures the continuity of his and his son's political career without jeopardizing future opportunities.

Disillusionment with Hindutva Ideology

Telangana people are not against any party but are deeply opposed to the Hindutva politics practiced by the BJP. The focus on issues like the Ram Mandir and the divisive rhetoric used in elections is not well-received in Telangana. Instead, people are more attracted to social welfare schemes, which were the foundation of KCR's resurgence in Telangana's political arena. The BJP has no significant contributions in this area, which further distances them from gaining the support of the Telangana populace.

Critique of BJP's Performance and Promises

In contrast, several instances highlight the BJP's inaction and broken promises. For instance, the citizens of Nizamabad, a district in Telangana, have been demanding a turmeric board for years. Despite five years of BJP rule at the center, they failed to address this issue, despite public pressure. During the recent parliamentary elections, BJP claimed they would fulfill this demand if re-elected. However, their failure to act during their previous term erodes public trust. Additionally, when Prime Minister Modi visits Telangana and accuses KCR of corruption and family rule, and then later aligns with TRS, it raises questions about the credibility of such promises and alliances.

Moreover, several institutions promised to Telangana during the BJP's rule have not been honored. This leaves Telangana citizens questioning why they should support a party that has consistently failed to fulfill its commitments. The current state of political uncertainty and disillusionment leaves the common people of Telangana questioning the real intentions of the BJP and other political parties.
