Squier Guitar Lovers: Are True Enthusiasts Among Them?
Squier Guitar Lovers: Are True Enthusiasts Among Them?
As a seasoned guitarist with a variety of high-end and mid-range guitars in my collection—Taylor, Martin, Gibson, and more—I find myself gravitating more towards my Squier guitars than any others. This raises the question: Are there genuinely enthusiastic Squier guitar players out there?
The Rarity of Guitar Enthusiasts
It's safe to say that guitarists are a minority among music enthusiasts. The success rate for aspiring guitar players often hovers around 90%. This means that the caliber of guitar players is even smaller when considering those who can comfortably afford their dream instruments without hesitation. Most guitarists, therefore, have to make do with "copies" of their favorite Fender or Gibson models. This explains why Squier and Epiphone guitars are top sellers, offering excellent value for money.
Quality and Enjoyment Factor
Many reviews on YouTube indicate that the Squier Affinity Series and Classic Vibe Series are highly regarded. These guitars provide excellent value for money, and many owners would not hesitate to swap their Squier models for the corresponding Fender models. This suggests that despite their "lowly" status, players genuinely enjoy playing these guitars. The ease of customization is also a significant factor. For instance, I have transformed my MIK Epiphone by Gibson Sheraton with a Bigsby/CT Bar/P90s/Stairstep tuners, which would be too risky on a Gibson ES335 or a Fender Telecaster. Similarly, my Affinity Telecaster and Classic Vibe 60s Custom double-bound Telecaster are cherished pieces, and the thought of damaging their finishes would be heartbreaking.
The Role of Beginners
While there are a few professional musicians who use Squiers, these guitars truly shine for beginners. They offer an excellent value proposition, and at least 50% of the expense is recovered with a proper setup. For many beginners, these guitars are their gateway to the world of guitar playing, and they can enjoy the learning process without breaking the bank.
Enjoyment Despite Challenges
I can attest to the enjoyment of playing Squier guitars. I play a Squier any day, and twice on Sunday if I can. If properly set up, my Squier guitar is an excellent instrument, offering a fulfilling playing experience. However, the true enjoyment of playing any guitar, regardless of the brand, is often a sign of a deep-seated passion and a complex quest. I have wrestled with this passion since I was 5 years old. It is a disease that compels one to seek light, sweetness, order, and peace through the medium of music, despite the futility of the journey. Fellow guitar lovers, take heart—we are not alone in this quest!
Conclusion
While Squier guitars may not be the ultimate instruments for some players, they do offer a reliable and enjoyable experience for those who truly appreciate them. Whether you're a beginner or an enthusiast, these guitars can play a significant role in your musical journey.
