Reflecting on Life’s Milestones: My Third Best Day

Life is a journey filled with countless milestones, and each day holds the potential to be special. Today, I want to share with you the story of my third best day ever, a day that, though not as memorable as others, left an indescribable impression on me.

A New Job at 66

The year 2022 marked a significant turning point in my life when I accepted a new job that turned this year into my best year ever. It may seem unconventional to accept a new job at the age of 66, but this position offered me the perfect balance between my career and personal life. What I love most about it is that I only work 20 hours a week, allocating the rest of my time to personal interests, family, and other pursuits. This job is the culmination of 16 different jobs I've held since we moved here in the US, and it is undoubtedly my best one.

The Sound of “1979”

When I think of the third best day of my life, the music that comes to mind is "1979" by the Smashing Pumpkins. This song encapsulates a range of emotions that align closely with my memories and experiences on that particular day. Perhaps it was the sense of fulfillment, the joy, or the newfound perspective that resonated with the lyrics and melody. Music has a unique ability to transport us, and "1979" felt like it was written for that very moment.

The Arrival of Our Second Fur Baby

One of the most cherished days of my life involved the adoption of our second fur child. In 2009, when we were living on the East Coast, my husband brought home a beautiful red and white sable papillon from Crocker, Missouri. This little companion, despite a harrowing journey almost losing him in Chicago en route, was a source of immense joy and love. He was a little over one year old and quickly became an integral part of our family. Sadly, in January of this year, he passed away due to heart failure at the age of 13 and a half. He lived a long and happy life, and his memory remains with us. We hope that wherever he is, he is at peace.

A Friendship That Transcended Boundaries

Another significant moment in my life happened recently when a friendship elevated to a deeper level. Sometimes, life presents us with unexpected opportunities for connection, and these interactions can leave a lasting impact. This specific day marked the beginning of a new phase in my life, one filled with deeper emotional ties and a sense of shared understanding.

Homeownership and the Small Pleasures of Life

The day I bought my own home was another profound milestone. Owning a home is a dream that many of us strive for, and it offers a sense of stability and security. However, it's not just about the house; it's about the experiences and memories that we create within its walls. One of the small yet delightful pleasures involves picking bananas from my trees. There's something incredibly satisfying about harvesting fresh produce, knowing that it came from my own garden. It's a reminder that some of life's greatest joys can be found in the simplest of things.

These days, from my best year ever to those cherished moments with our pets and the special friendships we form, are what make life so rich and rewarding.
