The Nature of Sketching
A sketch can be termed, at least by myself, as a rough or incomplete drawing. It is a form of art that is enjoyed as a freehand fluid expression in the moment rather than concentrating on minute details. I have a book on working sketches by garden designers, and some of them don’t even give as much detail as a sketch; they just give an idea of lines, curves, and angles. That’s why I like sketching more than other art. There is no pressure to obsess over accuracy or definition. It’s art freedom.
Finding Solutions for Drawing Difficulties
I don’t know what happened to you, nor do I know if it’s a physical problem with your hands or if you are just unhappy with your drawing.
If you have not practiced for years, then you will have to go back to practicing. If you have trouble drawing what you see before you, then I would suggest reading the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. It will help improve your visual perception and understanding of form. If drawing from the imagination is your problem, then you will have to study and copy the art of other people to see if a style of your own emerges. You can buy drawing books like Drawing Comics the Marvel Way and the Loomis Method, and any books similar to those that can show you how to draw from shapes.I hope this advice helps you regain your drawing skills and artistic confidence.
