From School to Software Development: My Journey and Lessons Learned

It’s been a remarkable journey from my 8th standard days to becoming a professional software developer. In this blog post, I want to share my educational and career journey, starting from my early aspirations to the various challenges and successes along the way.

Early Aspirations (2011-2013)

The journey began in my 8th standard when I set my sights on becoming a software developer. My fascination with video games led me to pursue a career in this field. By the time I reached my 9th and 10th standards, my passion for software development grew as I learned about app and game development. Facebook became a catalyst for my transition from a game developer to a web developer. I used to spend my free time in internet cafes to learn more about coding and development.

Challenges and Inspiration (2014-2015)

The period between my 11th and 12th standards was challenging, marked by a loss of interest due to the tedious study routine. However, I found new inspiration and started exploring technologies, which greatly improved my understanding of computer science. My efforts to learn and explore technology paid off when I topped both semesters in my first year of engineering despite devoting minimal time to my regular studies. I successfully developed a static web page and started participating in coding competitions, winning numerous awards.

Deep Diving into Tech (2016-2017)

The second year of engineering was a transformative period as I gained a deeper understanding of computer science. I successfully hosted my first website but it was a failure due to maintenance issues. My interest in machine learning grew, and I began learning this exciting field using Python. I topped both semesters again, winning awards and recognition for my projects.

_Final Year Project and Beyond (2018-2019)

In my final year, I completed my project on image captioning and developed a Python library for it. Despite placing in numerous companies, I realized that the time for my passion was limited. My journey taught me that the idea is more important than the technology, and software development is about solving real-world problems. I ended my engineering as an overall topper and left with the understanding that finding ways to swim through the ocean of computer science is key.

Post-Engineering Career (2019-Present)

After graduation, I initially joined a service-based company in Mumbai but quickly moved to a product-based company in Hyderabad. I found new excitement in developing my own career based on my interests. I focused on improving my content development skills and building my online presence. My YouTube channel and Udemy courses gained traction, with over one lakh students enrolled. I continue to develop my career according to my interests.

Lessons Learned

Computer science is like an ocean once you start swimming in it, and there will be struggles. However, instead of giving up, the key is to find ways to advance. Stay true to your interests and pursue what genuinely excites you.
